About MAC-DVD

MAC-DVD is a small, independently run publication about the Apple ecosystem. We write buying guides, software roundups, and how-tos for Mac and iPhone. This page explains exactly how those articles are made, and what we can and cannot vouch for.

What we cover

How we work

Our articles are desk research, not lab reviews, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. Here is the actual process:

Where the facts come from

A ranking here is a synthesis: documented features, current pricing, and published testing, weighed against what the article is actually trying to help you decide. Where we have run something ourselves, the article says so and shows what we saw. Where a conclusion rests on someone else's testing, we name whose and link to it. You should never have to guess which of the two you are reading.

Editorial independence

Manufacturers and advertisers do not see or approve articles before publication, and no partnership buys a recommendation. The site currently carries no affiliate links at all; see our advertising and disclosure policy.

Who writes this

Articles run under a single editorial byline, MAC-DVD Editorial, rather than invented author personas. The site is small and independently run; one person edits everything that goes out, and that person is accountable for the errors as well as the calls.

Our story

The mac-dvd.com domain has been online since 2006, starting out as a home for Mac multimedia software in the DVD-and-disc era. As the way people use Macs and iPhones changed, the site changed with it. Today it is a pure content publication: nothing to sell, just coverage written to help you decide what to buy, what to skip, and how to get things done.
